Population statistics are based on information in the CPR from 1977 onwards. With an extended place of birth, the place of birth of parents and grandparents is also included in addition to the persons own place of birth to establish a so-called base code.

A base code is composed of 3 information for kxyz, where

x: 0 = Born in Greenland, 1 = Born outside Greenland ,

k100 tells: how many people who were born to 2 Greenlandic-born parents with 4 Greenlandic-born grandparents abroad and as of January 1st, lives in Greenland
